COMMITMENTS Too are an outstanding 10-piece tribute band, emulating the passion, commitment and pure love of soul music as seen in Alan Parker’s award winning film THE COMMITMENTS.
As in the film, the band come from all walks of life, dedicating themselves to becoming “the hardest working band” of their genre and it’s that dedication and passion for soul music that captures the audience from the moment the band explode onto the stage. Inspired by Alan Parker’s film, based on the book by Roddy Doyle, the band began over 14 years ago by founding members Steve and Joanne. The band deliberately did not set out be a direct look-a-like of the characters in the film, but to reproduce the spirit, feel and energy of the film. And unlike the characters in the film they are all very good friends and consider themselves a family of soul brothers and sisters.
Their shows are packed full of songs that will be familiar to all generations – not only tracks from the film, such as Mustang Sally, Destination Anywhere and Nowhere to Run, but well known soul classics such as Respect, Knock on Wood and Sweet Soul Music plus a little bit of Northern Soul thrown in for good measure. And for those with memories that don’t quite stretch back to the originals, Commitments too treat the audience to mouth-watering renditions of such recent chart covers as, Lady Marmalade, Rescue Me and Hot Stuff.
The band’s “Head Chef” – Steve Nixon, vigorously stirs the energy and passion created by the band, into a tasty mixture and before serving up the main course, invites the audience to feast on the vocal talents of the “Commitmentettes”.
The soulful female vocalists, Jenny, Jo-Anne and Billie-Dee, each add their own unique spice to the recipe along with high energy dance routines. As they whip the audience into a frenzy that culminates with every man, woman and child joining in an uplifting encore of Jackie Wilson’s “Lifting Me Higher”.
Or course, none of this could happen without the talented backline of Mike, Pete, Glenn and Andy providing the foundation and drive of the music and rhythm, augmented by the JD horns, Joanne and Dave.
Commitments too never fail to impress all who witness their amazing brand of soul music and for over 10 years, has spread the soul gospel according to Otis, Aretha, Wilson and other soul-legends.
With this wealth of experience, Commitments too are the ideal party band for all those special occasions: Weddings, Private Parties, Corporate Functions and Annual Balls. Based in and around Stoke-on-Trent, the band travel extensively in the North West and all over Britain to spread their version of the Soul Recipe.
